5 Days in Harrogate - Day Three
This morning we were still feeling the effects of the previous day’s exertions but were determined not to compromise with the things we wanted to do so, after another hearty breakfast, we made our way to the bus station. Next stop, Ripon on the number 36 bus. A 30 minute scenic journey actually took close to 45 minutes because of roadworks, but time was not of an essence.
Ripon was not as big as we remembered it from a day trip many years ago which means it has either shrunk or our memory is not as good as it once was. The latter is almost certainly the case.
The bus station is very close to the main square so we decided to browse the shops in the square first. An alleyway directly off the square also housed a few shops and I was reading out the list to Pat and one was called ‘Hello Gorgeous’ which I said aloud just as a lady was passing. She turned and said ‘thank you’ to me and then we all had a good laugh when I explained to her what had happened. In truth we were really disappointed that there wasn’t more independent shops but there was, of course, the Cathedral to visit which Pat enjoyed but left me cold. I did spot a broken pew chair which I reported and the lady said she would get one of the virgins to repair it (Pat corrected my recollection and was adamant that the lady said ‘Vergers’ but I prefer my version).
A lunch of scones with cream and jam at a small cafe and then back to the bus station where we caught the bus just as it was leaving otherwise it would have been a 30 minute wait for the next one. No hold ups this time and we were back in Harrogate by 3p.m.
On the way back to the B and B we were kidnapped and held hostage in a pub but released in time to return to the B and B for a nap before getting ready for our evening meal at the Chinese restaurant.
Our meal at this Chinese restaurant was better than the one we had four years previously and the service was excellent as well but for all that it did seem a little overpriced. Never mind, we are on holiday.
Bed and a good nights sleep beckoned.
