Hotel Alua - Holiday Verdict
30th April
It’s doesn’t matter how much money you pay there really is no such holiday which is all things to all people. We are all individuals and ‘one persons meat is another persons poison’. It’s not about right and wrong but about preferences. For instance, lively evening entertainment is what many like in a hotel so they can get up and dance and let their hair down but others may prefer to sit and talk and their ears are offended by too much noise. Bearing this in mind the following are my opinions as to the rating I would give to the holiday and hotel that I have just experienced based upon my own personal preferences.
The Alua is a Hyatt hotel and is set in a purpose built small town. It is remote and there are only a couple of supermarkets and restaurants you can walk to. It is ideal for Walkers and Twitchers but the nearest town, Mahon, is only a bus ride, hotel shuttle or cab ride away.
The hotel itself is spacious and the rooms well appointed although, like so many other hotels I have stayed at, a bit more wardrobe and drawer space would not go amiss. This is not a major problem and for a single occupant would not be a problem at all.
The service from the staff is extremely good whether it be the Reception, the Room maids, the Bar staff, the Waiters and Waitresses or the Animation team. They all work very hard, are efficient and very friendly.
I am very fussy when it comes to food especially since my illnesses but I had 3 good meals a day and enjoyed them. Some people may want a wider variety of dishes but it has to be remembered that this is not the Ritz and that what’s on offer has to be taken in conjunction with the cost of the holiday which in my opinion was very reasonable.
The drinks were decent quality but as I was ‘all inclusive’ I am not in a position to judge on the individual prices but I doubt that they were exorbitant.
The girls and boys who made up the team of animators obviously enjoyed what they were doing and made friends and talked with the guests as well as entertaining with their dancing. They are not professional but what they lacked was more than made up for with the energy they put into anything they were doing. They also organised the daily activities but there was no coercion of the guests, you joined in or you didn’t.
The swimming pool is big with an abundance of sun beds and shades and there is also a nice paddling pool for young children to enjoy.
The management team were visible and accessible and were happy to discuss any problems that a guest was experiencing or just taking on board suggestions.
The evening entertainment was very good and it was obvious from the crowded dance floor every night that the guests really did enjoy their evenings.
I don’t feel I need to go any further in extolling the virtues of this hotel and will leave you to make up your own mind as to whether this meets your own preferences. I had a great holiday and was glad I went back to it. It suited me perfectly.
