Hotel Salobrena Suites - Day 2 PAT

 March 26th

                After a good nights sleep the first thing I did was to send another message to Terry but this time I made sure the WiFi was working. It wasn’t a convenient time to face-time him so left it until he messaged to say he was ready. As I’ve said I expected him to be grumpy because he hadn’t heard from me but he wasn’t as he had already assumed, knowing my fractious relationship with anything to do with computers, that I’d probably had trouble of one sort of another with the WiFi. It became clear when the connection was lost several times that the WiFi at my end was weak and unpredictable. During our face-time I could see him but he could only hear me not see me. That wasn’t really a problem but Terry was a bit miffed because he said that on the 28th he was hoping to see me in my Birthday suit. Dream on Sonny.

At bit more unpacking and then I got ready for the trip, later this morning, on the shuttle bus to Salobrena town after which the hotel is named. The town was a bit bigger than I had imagined but I didn’t see as much of it as I might have done because the main points of interest are the castle and the beach. Beaches don’t really interest me although I think there are a few cafes and bars there as well. In the time we had available before catching the shuttle back to the hotel it would have been a stretch to get to the castle so myself, a lady called Angela and Chrissie the Rep sat at a small cafe and had a drink before catching the shuttle back. I could go back another day but I’ll decide later in the holiday.

Back to the hotel in time for lunch after which it was time for another trip this time to a Rum making outlet to sample their wares in another small town called Montril. The rum is produced elsewhere but this is where much of the produce is stored and aged. For €5 we had a rum tasting session, a talk about the making of the rum and the history of the company. Obviously there was a lot of bottles of rum which we could purchase but I declined but really enjoyed this little excursion. Right up my street.

We were back in time to get ready and go to dinner and was invited to sit with Angela which I did and then we went to the bar area for a while. There was a disco going on in another area which consisted almost entirely of older people from our holiday company and we looked in as we were about to go back to our rooms. There were couples dancing so we decided to stay for a while and it was nice to have a little dance. Angela decided to stay but I was ready to go back and face-time Terry before going to bed. It had been another busy but enjoyable day and it wasn’t as hectic as it appears when I’m writing it down. 

Once again the weather has been really nice, much better than I expected and long may it continue but we will see.

Housebound

  14th January It has been too cold for me to venture outdoors for the past few days so we have done a bit of housework to keep the home in good order and Pat had a short time available to start on her picture. I thought this was a good time to share one of my very simple recipes with you, ideal  for a light lunch or a starter for a main  meal . Prawn and Rice for two Ingredients: Half a cup of White Long Grain Rice. 22 medium sized ready cooked Prawns 12 Baby Tomatoes Marie Rose sauce Lettuce (optional) Cucumber (optional) Preparation: Three quarter fill a medium sized saucepan with water and bring to the boil. A Boys Day Out

  Wednesday 15th January Alan is the husband of Lynda Lynda is the cousin of Pat Terry (that’s me) is the husband of Pat Tenuous as it may seem that must mean that Alan and I are linked as family members. Is there a term for that relationship? Maybe ‘ husbands of cousins in law? Probably not but the term particular to us is definitely GREAT MATES. We have a day out together 3/4 times a year when we meet up either in Basildon or Upminster and have a couple of drinks, a meal and a long chat about anything and everything that is relevant at the time. It’s a nice relaxing day and I always look forward to it. Alan is my type of guy, he has strong and good principles and sticks to them and expects the people around him to adhere to his own high standards. Hotel Alua - Holiday Verdict

  30th April It’s doesn’t matter how much money you pay there really is no such holiday which is all things to all people. We are all individuals and ‘one persons meat is another persons poison’. It’s not about right and wrong but about preferences. For instance, lively evening entertainment is what many like in a hotel so they can get up and dance and let their hair down but others may prefer to sit and talk and their ears are offended by too much noise. Bearing this in mind the following are my opinions as to the rating I would give to the holiday and hotel that I have just experienced based upon my own personal preferences. The Alua is a Hyatt hotel and is set in a purpose built small town. It is remote and there are only a couple of supermarkets and restaurants you can walk to. It is ideal for Walkers and Twitchers but the nearest town, Mahon, is only a bus ride, hotel shuttle or cab ride away.
