Date Evening. - Pat’s Version
4th February
I know that Terry has written his version of our Date Evening but I have not had sight of it and I’m hoping that our accounts will be comparable and compatible but I wouldn’t count on it.
It was in December 2024 that Terry suggested that we have a monthly Date Evening and I have to admit that I quite liked the idea which was much more acceptable than some of his other hare-brained ideas. To be honest, what woman would not agree to being treated to a nice meal, being waited on, a glass or two of wine and not having to lift a finger for the duration of the evening.
Having had this meal a few times over the years I know just how much preparation is necessary and how long it all takes to cook so the fact that Terry was prepared to make this effort I was quite happy to make my own effort to make the evening a success. I’d had my hair done a few days earlier, put on a nice blouse and tried to look as presentable as possible which I hope I did. Terry seemed to think so.
The meal was very enjoyable as it has been on the previous occasions Terry has cooked it. Each time it has tasted just a little bit different because he is a bit blasé about the quantities of the ingredients he uses. Not only did he cook the meal, he washed and dried up and later made me Apple pie for my dessert. My only concern during the evening was that Terry had eaten a more substantial meal than he normally would have and, along with the physical side of preparing and cooking the meal that, he would pay the price later that night. Thankfully he was fine, just very tired. Before we made ourselves comfortable in the living room I felt it necessary to wipe down the cooker and the work surfaces, which Terry doesn’t always think about. Considering the effort he had made I think he could be forgiven for that just this once.
We sat on the settee in the living room and after a bit of chat about nothing in particular we decided to watch an episode of Hope St. which is about the only programme Terry watches on the television. He put his arm around me and I snuggled up to him which was really nice but was interrupted when his arm went asleep. Poor Terry he can’t win.
I’m looking forward to our next Date Evening and wondering what he will be cooking next. I suspect it will be something new and a bit of an experiment. I’m not very adventurous so it’s nice to have someone who is and comes up with things that break the monotony of everyday life. It was a lovely evening all round and shows how much Terry loves me. Fingers crossed that our accounts of the evening aren’t too dissimilar.
