Valentines Day

14th February Nothing in and nothing out. A veritable desert of romantic outpouring from my many female admirers. Even Kylie has forsaken me for reasons I know not. Perhaps she has eight cats and I’ve upset her with my last post or perhaps no one has been able to facilitate the mortgage needed in order to purchase a first class stamp. Is my magnetic personality and suave sophistication not enough anymore?  Maybe I should consider tweaking my romantic technique which has never been particularly successful anyway or is it too late?  Never mind there is still next year. One must live in hope mustn’t one.

Cats

11th February I am not a lover of cats but I wouldn’t intentionally hurt one and I do understand that they bring joy, comfort and companionship to many people. My main objection to them is the view of many cat owners that their pets should be allowed to roam freely to impinge and adversely affect the lives of others. These are the same people who would complain bitterly if their neighbour allowed their dog constant access to their property and to deposit their waste matter wherever it pleased. I’m sure the vast majority of people abhor dog owners who do not clear up the deposits of their animals from the pavements. Society has rules about the behaviour of dogs and their owners but does not impose any restrictions on cats, on the contrary, many cat owners encourage their animals to roam free by installing cat flaps. The view that cats are wild animals and therefore cannot or should not  be restricted is complete nonsense. Home living cats are domestic. Tigers, lions etc are w...

Date Evening. - Pat’s Version

4th February I know that Terry has written his version of our Date Evening but I have not had sight of it and I’m hoping that our accounts will be comparable and compatible but I wouldn’t count on it. It was in December 2024 that Terry suggested that we have a monthly Date Evening and I have to admit that I quite liked the idea which was much more acceptable than some of his other hare-brained ideas. To be honest, what woman would not agree to being treated to a nice meal, being waited on, a glass or two of wine and not having to lift a finger for the duration of the evening. Having had this meal a few times over the years I know just how much preparation is necessary and how long it all takes to cook so the fact that Terry was prepared to make this effort I was quite happy to make my own effort to make the evening a success. I’d had my hair done a few days earlier, put on a nice blouse and tried to look as presentable as possible which I hope I did. Terry seemed to think so. The...

Date Evening - Terry’s Version

4th February  Those of you who were readers of my Charity Walk blog may remember that Pat and I made a joint New Years restitution to have a Date Evening once a month. This was the first of them. Our agreement was that I should cook a meal worthy of an upmarket restaurant and we dress as if we were going out to dine. I would also wash and wipe up and allow Pat to have a carefree evening of being waited on and relaxing. I think she deserves that and so does she. I can’t believe what a wonderful man I am, so thoughtful and caring. I’m sure you can’t wait to hear my blow for blow account of the evening, so here goes. My attire for the evening consisted of black trousers, pink long sleeved shirt but no tie. PINK shirt!!!. Don’t snigger, I’m taking this opportunity to demonstrate my allegiance to the sisterhood by displaying my feminine side. We decided however not to ‘take the knee’. I also wore an apron while preparing and cooking the meal to protect my clothing which I forgot ...

Special Occasions / Events

3rd February Early last week I had occasion to visit my shed, which is located at the bottom of my garden, and it was while I was taking the walk to and fro that I first noticed the green shoots of the early Spring bulbs. Every year that first sighting really lifts my spirits because it’s natures way of telling me that in just a few weeks Spring will be sprung. For me it’s the first ‘Special Occasion’ of the year, lifts the gloom of Winter and fills me with hope. Later I started to think about what other ‘Special Occasions’ the year 2025 would bring and it dawned on me that this could be a vintage year for myself and my family and one to really look forward to. Seeing how you are all my friends, I would like to share with you those future occasions and events. I will do this chronologically or if you prefer I will do it in date order. Right, date order it is. Already passed, on the 21st January was my youngest granddaughter’s 21st birthday. Its been a wonderful life’s experience t...
