Keri’s Party Night

Friday 10th January

The one engagement that we were not able to keep at Christmas was an invitation from Keri, our very good friend and neighbour, to have drinks with her on Christmas morning. Unfortunately, Katie her daughter, caught Chicken Pox and I was not willing to risk the possibility of getting an infection so we agreed to postpone it until she was over the illness. Why is this illness named so? Is it linked to chickens? Last night we fulfilled that engagement and met up with Keri and some of her family including Arnold her cockapoo.

We often look after Arnold because Keri’s commitments means she would often have to leave him on his own in the house for too long a period. He recently had an operation on one of his back legs and we looked after him for several weeks while he recouperated. He is perfectly happy with us and regards staying with us as his holiday home. He is my mate

The drinks flowed and eventually we got involved in a number of quizzes which made me realise just how out of touch I am with the modern world. I rarely watch films or t.v. (except perhaps for the evening news) preferring to read, listen to music of yesteryear or draw, so any questions related to anything after the late 60’s is beyond me. It was fun nevertheless although I thought our quiz master was a bit harsh with his point giving. Having been asked “what is the only fish that can’t swim.” I thought my answer “ tinned salmon” was at least worth half a point. As they say “it’s the taking part not the winning that’s important”. We got home in the early hours of the morning and a good time was had by all….as far as I can remember.

During the evening everybody gave their opinion on what was their most favourite film and no two answers were the same so I’m going to list my 10 favourite films:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (I’ll watch anything that Paul Newman is in and if I had to look like anybody else in the world it would be him. As it is I am happy with what I am. After all you can’t beat perfection)

The Girl can’t help it (not sure if that is the proper title but it contains the song of that title performed by Little Richard)

                On the Waterfront

                War of the Roses

                Dirty Harry

                Psycho

                Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

                The Omen

                E.T

                Catch 22

If there are any films amongst the above you haven’t seen, and you have time on your hands, check them out. You won’t be disappointed.
